A small guide to sauna etiquette
In order to put you at ease in our sauna area, we'd like to give you a few suggestions for your visit:
We have plenty of roomy storage spaces where you can store your bags. No sun loungers are reserved and every guest can find a lounger of his or her choice.
At the Claudius Therme, you can enjoy relaxing and calm vaporisations caused by pouring water onto hot rocks every hour. Please note the timetables in the sauna area which specify when the water will be poured onto the hot rocks. We request that you go to the sauna where the vapour or steam is scheduled to be generated in good time in order to avoid interruptions. No admission is permitted after our staff begin pouring water onto the hot rocks.
We would like to offer all our guests the chance to find a place of uninterrupted peace and quiet in every area and at any time. That is why we request that you keep any displays of affection down to an absolute minimum throughout the entire facility and to refrain from any such displays entirely in the saunas as well as in the pools.
We request you wear swimwear in the thermal and bathing area; swimwear is not, however, permitted in the saunas and showers. In the sauna area outside the saunas and throughout the whole facility we do, however, request that you wear a bathrobe or a towel. The wearing of a bathrobe or towel is compulsory in the restaurant area.
You can obtain food and drink at the sauna bar or in the Rose Cafe in the Rose Terraces. You may not consume any food or drink that you have brought with you in any part of the sauna area.
Our sauna facility is a place of calm and relaxation for you and the other guests. That is why we would like to generally request that you support this through your behaviour. Out of consideration for the other guests, we request that you do not use mobile phones and cameras in our facility. Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking areas.
Healthy saunas
Hot tips for your visit to the sauna: the positive effect of a visit to a sauna is no secret. It stimulates the metabolism, detoxifies the body, supplies the skin with blood, purifies it and relaxes both muscles and soul. What is not so well known is what a visit to the sauna should actually look like so that it is well tolerated and beneficial. That is why we're giving you a few tips you should keep in mind when you next visit a sauna.
Sequence of events: a healthy sauna consists of four phases:
- Showering
- Heat
- Cooling down
- Resting
- Footbaths, massages and exercise are a sensible supplement to a sauna.
Showering and heat phase:
Before you enter the sauna area, please take off your bathing trunks or swimming costume and wear a sauna towel or bathrobe. Before you enter the sauna itself, you should have a shower. The length of your stay in a sauna depends on your personal well-being. For not very experienced sauna users, the heat phase in a 80°C sauna should not last longer than 15 minutes. If you like it hot, you should sit near the oven or at a higher level. The middle and lower levels are not so hot. Please do not talk as this sauna is a place of peace and quiet. In the sauna, please use a towel that is big enough for you to sit on and put your feet on.
Cooling off:
In order to cool down, you should then go out into the fresh air for a couple of minutes. The refreshment using ice or water that then follows should always start at the feet and work its way up in the direction of the heart. If you do not suffer from hypertension or any heart disorders, the plunge pool is the ideal way to refresh yourself after the shower.
Resting phase:
The resting phase is when the beneficial effect of the sauna becomes clear. You should allow yourself as much time to rest as you had previously spent in the heat. Please behave in such a way so as not to disturb the other guests while they are resting.
General information:
Since the body loses a lot of water during a sauna, we advise our guests to drink a lot before every visit to the sauna. This will also assist the detoxification process. If you feel unwell or suffer from cardiovascular conditions, you should consult a doctor before going to the sauna. Our staff are available to answer your questions or receive your suggestions at any time. We wish you lots of pleasure and a relaxing stay at the Claudius Therme.
