Exterior sauna area : the finnish-siberian sauna village

The Finnish-Siberian sauna village invites you to become acquainted with ancient Nordic sauna traditions and spa ceremonies.

A special type of sauna experience awaits you in the large Finnish sauna house. The use of the deceased trunks of up to 500-year old Polar pine trees (Kelo trees) ensures an unusually ambient atmosphere in the sauna room. A room equipped with an open fire is subsequently available for relaxing and tarrying.

The Siberian Banja is a unique testimony to Russian spa culture. The blockhouse, which is made of Siberian pine, underwent a 6000 km journey before being erected in Cologne's Rheinpark.

The characteristic element of Nordic sauna and spa ceremonies is the infusion. Various forms of this are celebrated for you in the Claudius Therme. Naturally pure essential oils increase the effect of the infusion. A honey infusion cleanses and smoothes the skin. During a salt infusion, the body is rubbed down with marine salt. The properties of the salt minerals have a dehydrating effect, and support the removal of waste products from the upper layers of the skin. This leads to the achievement of effective full-body exfoliation.

In contrast to the Finnish sauna, the Siberian Banja is characterised by its low temperature and high level of humidity. This considerably increases your thermal perception. In the Banja, you will experience Siberia's traditional spa ceremony: Wenik infusions with bunches of birch twigs, or the Banja ritual with freshly prepared tea, both of which involve a final rub-down with ice, will provide you with well-being and enjoyment.

(The Banja ritual ceremony is not contained in the admission charge).
